The College of Naturopathic Doctors of Alberta is the regulatory authority for naturopathic doctors registered to practice in Alberta. The mandate of the College is to protect the public by governing the profession in accordance with the Health Professions Act. In doing so, the College ensures that the public receives safe and ethical naturopathic medical care from competent naturopathic doctors.

How the CNDA Regulates
the health professions act
Alberta regulates a number of health professions. The majority of these health professions are regulated by self-governing colleges under the Health Professions Act (HPA). The HPA was developed to regulate health professions using a model that allows for non-exclusive, overlapping scopes of practice.

regulated Health Colleges
Under the HPA, regulated health professions are organized into organizations called colleges. These regulatory bodies are delegated powers and authorities for self-governance. The CNDA is the regulatory body for naturopathic doctors in Alberta and is not a post-secondary institution.

A major responsibility of professional colleges is to investigate complaints about regulated members and to impose disciplinary sanctions if appropriate. This process is outlined in Part 4 of the HPA and is the same process for all regulated health professions in Alberta.
the registration process
Specific authorizations, including restricted activities, for naturopathic doctors can be found in the Naturopaths Profession Regulation. Restricted activities require specific competencies and skills to be carried out safely and are not linked to any specific health profession.
