Course APplication: Approval for Initial Authorization to Perform Restricted Activities

An activity requiring authorization, also known as ‘restricted activities’, are indicated activities performed as part of providing a health service that require specific competencies and skills to be carried out safely. Restricted activities are not linked to any particular health profession and a number of regulated health professionals may perform a particular restricted activity. A complete list of restricted activities authorized for naturopathic doctors are listed in the Health Professions Restricted Activity Regulation.

The CNDA endeavours to have a clear policy with respect to the administration of the Approved Course List for Activities Requiring Authorization to ensure that all courses used to apply for authorization to perform an activity requiring authorization are current and remain appropriate to the qualification of a Regulated Member or an applicant to become a Regulated Member.

Course Application Process

A regulated member or course provider can present a new course to be considered for the list by taking the following steps:

  1. Completing the Course Application Form, and emailing it to courses@cnda.net along with:

    a) complete course materials;

    b) details of the course format;

    c) a sample certificate, including the name of the provider, name of course, name of participant, total number of hours attended, date of successful completion, and name of course instructor(s);

    d) course instructors’ CVs; and,

    e) any other material relevant to the course content, format, or presenters.

Approval Process

  1. When in receipt of all the materials listed above, the College will:

    a) schedule the course for review with the Registration Committee at the next available slot in their meeting agenda;

    b) provide the Registration Committee with all course information as provided;

  2. When the Registration Committee has reviewed a course, it will provide to the College a completed CNDA Course Review Form.

The College shall amend the CNDA Approved Course List for Activities Requiring Authorization and shall diarize any re-review date specified by the Registration Committee. If no re-review date is specified, a re-review date of 3 years from the date of approval shall be set.
